Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice Seminar

In collaboration with the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration, Wise is pleased to announce the Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice! Comprised of two sessions per week, this Community of Practice will offer hands on examples and opportunities to see innovative direct service from employment providers across the State of Washington. Tuesday seminars will occur each week from 9:30 to 11:30am PST, and Friday workshops will provide follow up conversation and activities based on the Tuesday content from 9:30 to 10:30am PST. These events are open to all and free of charge.

*Attending the Tuesday seminar is not required in order to participate in Friday's workshop, although you are encouraged to do so. Recordings of Tuesday's events will be made available the following Wednesday to those who could not attend. Register for the Friday workshop that corresponds with this event by visiting to the Wise Calendar (scheduled for Friday of that same week).

Please join us on Tuesday, April 6 for our seminar, "Outcome based meetings and finding remote solutions" with Cares of Washington.    

Learn how to foster an environment that promotes creativity that leads to successful outcomes for the individuals we work with. There we will focus on addressing challenges that come with transitioning to remote services supports, facilitating the staff ecosystem, and promoting novel strategies for problem solving. The presentation will also include examples, case studies, and  stories from the Cares Team.

  •  Lean how to implement successful remote strategies for employment agencies
  •  Learn how to harness staff creativity for novel approaches to remote services.

*Please note: Wise maintains registration and attendance records for our events and training programs. Wise is required to monitor participation in our courses and provide reports to our funding sources so that they may utilize these records in the course of their audits of programs. These reports may include actual time spent by attendee name, event/training title, county and state. Reports are provided to ensure there is documented proof of the appropriate use of government funds for the purposes of professional development. Attendees that participate in our events and/or complete training programs will receive a certificate to document participation as back up for billing purposes.

Meet the Panel:

Kaitlin (Kate) Pitz 

 Kate Pitz is a Job Coach of 3 years with Cares of Washington King County, primarily working out of South King County. She attended the University of Washington Seattle campus and graduated in 2017 with her bachelors degree in Disability Studies. She began with Cares as a Community Inclusion Specialist and has progressed with job coaching, training staff, expanding options for new clientele, and supporting coworkers with creative client solutions. She is passionate about helping Cares’ clients reach their highest potential, finding innovative and unconventional ways to support clients and the people in their lives through vocational services, and providing services and support in a holistic and inclusive way. Outside of work, she enjoys playing her instruments, crafting, and exploring nature whenever she can.

 Wendy Ehr

 Wendy Ehr has spent 25 years working in the field of disabilities, including in her special education studies at Wyoming University and at Lewis and Clark State College. Before coming to Cares of Washington, she worked at a community agency, SL Start Developmental Disabilities Services, where she worked closely with individuals with disabilities in both a group setting and one-on-one, planning and providing community activities. She also spent many years in residential services before moving onto Person-Centered Planning services at TriCities Residential Services, a program designed to ensure that all participants receive personalized coaching and planning services for maximum independence and success.

 Wendy  joined the employment field at Cares of Washington in 2010 and started as a job coach and job developer for the first 5 years, then as the North Team Program manager for the last 6 years. She is very passionate and dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities achieve their highest potential.

 In her personal time, she enjoys showing her horses, sea kayaking with her husband, camping and spending time with her grandkids.

Jared Sand  

 Jared Sand is a Job Coach, Job Developer, and Team Lead with 5 years experience at Cares of Washington. He has specialized in Assistive Technology and Communication Support, and is expanding employment prospects for clients in the greater Seattle area. Here he has helped Cares's clientele experience higher self sufficiency, improved job prospects, and increased overall quality of life. He is passionate about making a contribution to the community and improving the lives of others. Outside of work, he enjoys music, health nutrition, and yoga.
